Seoul: 서서갈비 (Seo Seo Galbi)

Oh hey. Hello there again after my (almost) nine months hiatus. It's the longest I've ever left the blog unattended. I guess it was the Mt Everest backlog that's in the background that's been deterring me from even attempting to make a post. (Ha, what's new.)

Anyway, if you've been following me on Instagram, you will know that I'm still eating, traveling and basically living my life as usual. A break from blogging has not changed me, I simply have more time to do more of the above mentioned. I really wonder how I found all that time and energy to blog so frequently in the past. As I grow older, I rather be doing so many other stuff but blogging. That said, I'm back here cos with my traveling, I really really like having a place to log all my travel thoughts and info, so that it's like a sort of reference guide to myself (and whoever still reads this tiny old blog of mine).

If you visit my travel page, I've rearranged the travels to make it now countries-based instead of years-based. With my super slow mode of posting, I reckon it'll be wiser to do so (so I can fudge the dates of my actual visit). Without further ado, I reckon my first post in a long while should be about travel eats, and what best than at one of my fave all-time travel location - Seoul.

I reckon after such a long break, any loyal readers (hi to anyone out there) should be rewarded with some food porn, so I dug through my photos to come up with this set of photos from a BBQ meal I had in Seoul. For lunch. Yes, we had beer during lunch, don't judge. Hey, anyone on vacation is entitled to do things as such. *dares anyone to challenge otherwise*.

I love my meat, especially beef. So when I googled and found this standing beef BBQ place, it was without doubt that I would pay the place a visit. Standing and wolfing down chunks of meat like a boss? Hell yeah.

Even though we were there during lunch, and BBQ not being a standard lunch-friendly dish, the place was still pretty packed (and there was a long queue outside, sorry no photos of the queue as I was busy scarfing down my meat). We initially ordered one portion of meat, but we polished it off damn easily, and so we got another two orders of meat. Oh wait, or was it the other way round? Whatever the case, just note between us two, we had three servings of meat. Ha.

Just look at that glistening meat on the grill begging to be eaten. The meat was pretty juicy, but it could be a little bit too chewy (think I'm super used to bbq-ing wagyu meat most of the time, which are more of the melt in the mouth texture, so ignore my pampered tastebuds speaking). Otherwise, flavour was pretty spot-on, and I would so kill for some fresh veggies or kimchi.

Do note that the menu is purely ONLY marinated so-galbi (beef short ribs). Well they did provide some raw green chillis and dipping sauce but that's about it. No kimchi, no banchans, no rice, no nothing. Zilch I've read online that hardcore eaters will BYO, but as we were mere tourists, we made do with just the meat, oh and beer. I don't have to say it, but BBQ meat and beer goes hand-in-hand like best buddies.
